College and Gardens Working together in PE

College and Gardens Working together in PE

18 March 2024

Over the last few weeks both Hampton College and Hampton Gardens have been working together to develop Rugby across the two schools. We have been delighted to see so many students attending both practice and matches and really developing their skill and knowledge of the game outside of lesson time.

In Year 7 and 8 both schools played against each other on Wednesday night with 32 Year 7’s and 23 year 8’s in full competition. The year 7 game was a close one with a 20-20 draw and Hampton Gardens showed their superior knowledge in Year 8 with a 50-5 win. College will be sure to come back stronger next week!

At Year 9 level there have been 23 boys from the two schools competing against each other (Gardens winning 35-20) in a hard-fought match and now, with the help of coaches from Peterborough Rugby club, they have joined forces to put a Hampton Academies Trust team together (HAT) for the first time since before Covid-19 and will play Kings school next week in a full competitive game.

And finally, the Year 10’s has already been working together to form a Trust team. Mr Huppatz has been training 16 of the boys over the last two weeks and they took part in their first game against Kings school on Monday. Although they lost 45 – 10 they showed great character and resilience to keep going until the end. The boys cannot wait for the re-match next week at the College.

As part of this initiative the Senior leadership team at the trust is supporting the initiative and have provided funding for a set of HAT shirts, but these are not quite ready, and the boys will have to wait until next season to look even more ‘Team Hampton’!
