Our LRC aims to promote literacy and reading both for pleasure and in support of schoolwork and learning.
Our fantastic range of Fiction books appeal to all abilities and interests and include the most current and popular titles and authors. These have a clear colour-coding system to indicate to students the recommendation age and difficulty level of each book, so they should have no trouble selecting which book might be best for them.
Our non-fiction collection provides a range of resources to support both curriculum-based work, satisfy the interests of keen minds, and develop their curiosity. Some of our most popular non-fiction titles include the F2 series and Minecraft handbooks!
We also offer a vast array of Graphic novels, Magazines, Comic Books, DVD’s and Audiobooks for those who prefer an audio/visual experience. Furthermore, there is access to the computers and on supervised occasions, tablets.
One of the most exciting aspects of having a brand new, spacious LRC is that the students themselves can help to make it their own! Students are actively encouraged to make book recommendations, so that the books and games purchased can largely be those chosen by students of all years. This has been highly successful and provided a large proportion of the growing collection filling the shelves. Students also have an active hand in deciding the sorts of after-school clubs that run in the LRC to support their interests and can make recommendations on this to Mrs Blackwell.
Almost all of the resources in the LRC are available to loan and students can have access to them in some classes too.
Kind parents and staff members have donated fantastic quality books of their own to help grow the collection and offer variety. If you feel you have an excess of age appropriate, good condition materials (fiction or non-fiction) and this is something you could and would like to help with, then please get in touch with Mrs Blackwell via email. firstname.lastname@example.org as all donations are gratefully received.
