Maths

What will we cover this year?

We are following the White Rose Scheme of Work, which builds directly on work covered in Primary School and that is designed to cover all areas of Mathematics in depth to prepare students for their GCSE’s. Students will be given regular homework to complete to ensure that they are working at the best of their ability, alongside regular in class mini assessments.

At Hampton Gardens Secondary School, we desire all students to develop confidence in maths and recognise the importance of mathematics in their lives. We aim to help students become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, reason mathematically and develop core problem solving skills that all students can use in their futures no matter what it may hold for our students.

Our KS4 curriculum builds upon the learning of the students in KS3 and follows an AQA scheme of assessment. Students participate in one of two, linear two-year programmes of study (Foundation/Higher), depending upon their ability, which enables them to feel successful and complete the corresponding AQA GCSE Maths papers at the end of the course.

Students in Year 10 will sit 3 modified GCSE papers containing the topics studied in class. In Year 11 students will sit 2 full (All three papers) GCSE papers during the PPE Period. These provide the data supplied on their report cards.

All Hampton Gardens students will be given a personal Sparx Maths account. The homework for KS4 is set on Sparx Maths weekly and this also provides an excellent opportunity for students to participate in additional independent study.

Upon the completion of any assessments throughout KS4 students will be given individual feedback accompanied by relevant Sparx codes to help them improve their knowledge and understanding.
